General Medical Services

A timely alternative to emergency department visits

How the referral process works

GPs can refer directly to Brunswick Private Hospital for fast-tracked admission, allowing patients to bypass the emergency department where clinically appropriate.

A General Medical Physician is allocated based on the referral, ensuring continuity of care from admission through to discharge.

Referrals can be submitted to our admissions team via the follow or our online forms below.

At Brunswick Private Hospital, we offer a streamlined pathway for patients requiring urgent (non-emergency) medical care, without the delays often experienced in busy emergency departments.

Through direct GP referral, eligible patients can be admitted for prompt assessment, treatment, and inpatient care—helping reduce unnecessary emergency room visits and wait times.

An alternative to the emergency department

For many conditions that require hospital care—but are not life-threatening emergencies—our General Medical Admissions service provides a more efficient option.

Patients benefit from:

  • Faster access to medical care via GP referral
  • Avoidance of long emergency department wait times
  • No emergency department fees
  • Direct admission under a General Physician

This model supports better patient flow while ensuring care is delivered in a calm, structured hospital environment.

Who is this service for?

Our General Medical Admissions pathway is suitable for patients who:

  • Require hospital admission but are clinically stable
  • Do not need immediate emergency resuscitation or ED intervention
  • Can be safely referred by their GP for timely inpatient care

Patients who are unstable (e.g. chest pain, cardiac arrhythmia, low blood pressure or hypoxia) should be referred directly to an emergency department.
