Mayor to Open New Clinic Bringing Advanced Depression Treatment to Brunswick

The official opening will be officiated by Cr Nat Abboud highlighting the importance of increasing access to specialised mental health and rehabilitation services within the region.

The new clinic has been established to support individuals experiencing Treatment Resistant Depression and other complex mood disorders where traditional treatments have not delivered sufficient improvement.

The service provides access to evidence-based interventions delivered within a structured and closely supervised clinical environment, including:

  • Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) – a non-invasive neurostimulation therapy delivered by trained clinicians
  • Esketamine (PBS-listed) – administered for eligible patients
  • Intravenous Ketamine Treatment – provided within a monitored clinical framework
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – integrated psychological therapy delivered alongside biological treatments to support sustained recovery

Patients receive comprehensive assessment, ongoing monitoring, and coordinated care in collaboration with their GP and treating psychiatrist. The clinic is designed to complement primary and specialist care, offering an additional treatment pathway for individuals living with complex depressive or mood-related presentations.

Syed Hossain, CEO of Brunswick Private Hospital, said the new clinic represents an important step forward for the local community.

“For many people, depression is not a single episode. It can be persistent, complex and deeply debilitating. This clinic ensures that patients who have not responded to traditional treatments can access evidence-based alternatives close to home.”

Innovation Beyond Mental Health

The launch of the TRD Clinic forms part of Aurora’s broader commitment to advancing healthcare services at Brunswick Private Hospital.

In parallel, the hospital will commence a trial of an advanced upper-limb robotic rehabilitation device, designed to support patients recovering from neurological injury and complex musculoskeletal conditions.

The technology aims to:

  • Improve functional recovery
  • Increase therapy intensity
  • Enable more personalised rehabilitation programs

Mr Hossain said the addition of robotic rehabilitation technology reflects Aurora’s wider vision for integrated, future-focused care.

“Together, these advancements demonstrate Aurora’s commitment to delivering leading-edge mental health and rehabilitation services for the communities we serve.”

The Treatment Resistant Depression Clinic will commence accepting patients from 2 March, with referrals now open.

Media Invitation

Local media representatives are invited to attend the official opening on 2 March, meet clinicians, tour the new clinic and view the advanced rehabilitation technology.
