In the reflections below, Syed shares key insights from the event and highlights the importance of collaboration in building stronger, healthier and more connected communities.
It was a pleasure to attend the Northern Business Achievement Awards – September 2026 Breakfast this morning at Novotel Melbourne Preston, bringing together business leaders, industry representatives and community stakeholders from across Melbourne’s north.
In my role leading Community Engagement at Brunswick Private Hospital, I value opportunities like this to strengthen relationships beyond the hospital walls and better understand how healthcare organisations can contribute to the broader communities we serve.
A highlight of the morning was hearing from Robin Penty, CEO of the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation, on “Purpose-driven leadership, innovation and advocacy in health research.” Her reflections on strategic partnerships, community involvement, advocacy and the importance of lived experience strongly resonated with the work we do across healthcare.
For me, community engagement is about more than building networks. It is about creating meaningful partnerships between healthcare, local businesses, community organisations and government that can ultimately contribute to stronger, healthier and more connected communities.
Congratulations to the businesses recognised through the Northern Business Achievement Awards, and thank you to NORTH Link, Banyule City Council and the City of Whittlesea for bringing Melbourne’s northern business community together.
