Treatment Resistant Depression Clinic

About Treatment Resistant Depression Clinic

Brunswick Private Hospital has launched an onsite dedicated service supporting patients experiencing Treatment Resistant Depression and other complex mood disorders where neurostimulation or ketamine‑based therapies may be clinically appropriate.

Our Services

Comprehensive Assessment and Ongoing Monitoring

Our Treatment‑Resistant Depression (TRD) Clinic begins with a thorough psychiatric assessment to understand each patient’s history, current symptoms, and treatment response. We work collaboratively with your GP or existing specialist to ensure seamless continuity of care, providing structured follow‑up and ongoing monitoring throughout your treatment journey.

Neurostimulation and Interventional Treatments

We offer a range of evidence‑based interventional therapies for individuals whose symptoms have not improved with standard antidepressant treatment:

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS)

A safe, non‑invasive neurostimulation therapy delivered by trained clinicians to support mood improvement.

Esketamine (PBS‑listed)

Administered to eligible patients as part of a supervised treatment program, providing an additional option for those who have not responded to oral antidepressants.

Intravenous (IV) Ketamine Therapy

Delivered within a closely monitored clinical environment, IV Ketamine may be considered when other interventions have proven insufficient.

CBT for Treatment‑Resistant Depression (TRD)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) remains a cornerstone of care for individuals experiencing Treatment‑Resistant Depression—particularly when symptoms are chronic, complex, or compounded by other psychological factors.

Why CBT Matters in TRD

  • Patients with TRD often experience challenges that continue to reinforce depressive symptoms, including:
  • Deeply ingrained negative thinking patterns
  • Avoidance behaviours linked to long‑term depression
  • Co‑occurring anxiety, trauma‑related concerns, or personality‑based vulnerabilities
  • Limited response after two or more antidepressant trials

While medication non‑response is common in TRD, this does not mean that therapy will be ineffective. CBT provides a structured, evidence‑based way to modify unhelpful thoughts and behaviours and build long‑term coping strategies.
