Aurora Extras is an outpatient rehabilitation service available at Brunswick Private Hospital. Our Aurora Extras services help overcome those burdens by providing tailored programs that provide the right care, in the right setting and at the right cost. Aurora Extras provide a range of critical allied health and health-related services across a broad range of conditions, in the one rehabilitation-accredited location.
Brunswick Private Hospital is now offering the Aurora Extras Programs below. From April 2021, our programs will each run twice per week.
Hydrotherapy
We offer community access to our Hydrotherapy pool located on site at Brunswick Private Hospital. The pool sessions will run Monday and Thursday from 1.00pm – 1.50pm and are fully supervised by Allied Health qualified staff.
Hydrotherapy has been proven to offer a comfortable environment to exercise, for anyone experiencing pain. The program is perfect for patients undergoing ‘prehab’ prior to surgery, as well as those recovering after surgery, trauma or deconditioning.
From 1 April 2021, the cost per session will be $25.00. Please call 03 9385 1105 to book into a hydrotherapy session. Please note that places are limited.
Cardiac Rehabilitation Program
Cardiac rehabilitation is provided for any patient with a surgical or non-surgical cardiac condition. The program aims to educate the cardiac patient about safe exercise, diet, medications they may be taking and any mood/anxiety/depression they may be experiencing.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Pulmonary rehabilitation is provided for all patients with lung conditions including COPD and Emphysema. The program uses exercise and education to maximise quality of life for patients suffering from pulmonary conditions, in a safe, professional and supportive environment.
Falls and Balance Program
Falls prevention is a group-based program for any patient who is experiencing falls issues or has a falls risk, either in the community or at home. It provides the patient with Best Practice education, exercise and evaluation to help decrease the risk of falls. The program is structured to make the patient feel safe and to build confidence in exercise and general everyday living.
PD Warrior
One in (approximately) every 300 people, are diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and almost 20% are of working age. Appropriate exercise can maintain function and independence whilst helping to reduce burden of care.
Our Parkinson’s group is targeted at mid-stage disease where patients are still mostly independent. It is based on the principles of higher intensity, large amplitude movements which are shown to be beneficial. Our group classes are led by our Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists and involve speech pathology and other allied health professionals as required."
