At Brunswick Private we understand that many different circumstances can lead to a decline in an individual's physical function, and their ability to cope in their own environment. As we age it is extremely common to experience increasing trouble recovering following general surgery, or medical illness such as COVID-19, urinary tract infection, cellulitis, or even just a cold or flu.

This program may be suitable for you if:

  • experience increasing trouble recovering following medical illness such as COVID-19.
  • experience increasing trouble recovering following general surgery.
  • experience increasing trouble recovering following cellulitis, or even just a cold or flu.
  • experience increasing trouble recovering following urinary tract infections.

Program content

Inpatient program structure

  • Initial assessment within 24 hours of admission by Physiotherapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Dietitian
  • Social Worker
  • Psychologist
  • Geriatrician/Rehabilitation Specialist
  • Holistic team approach to treatment and supporting you following your deterioration in function
  • Daily therapy from all disciplines as indicated, 6 days a week (or as tolerated) - hydrotherapy also available
  • Discharge planning and referral into our specialised reconditioning day program

Day program structure

  • 90-180 minutes of therapy (depending on tolerances)
  • May include exercise physiology
  • Physiotherapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Speech pathology
  • Dietetics
  • Psychology, 
  • Hydrotherapy
  • One to two days per week over six weeks (program length can be varied based on your progress)"

What you will experience

Inpatient program structure - Initial assessment within 24 hours of admission by Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Dietitian, Social Worker, Psychologist, and Geriatrician/Rehabilitation Specialist. Day program structure - May include exercise physiology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, dietetics, psychology, and hydrotherapy.

Reduce the incidence of injury or falls.

Improve physical capacity following significant illness (or general surgery).

Retain the ability to manage safely in your own residence, and reduce the risk of further admission into hospital.

Ask your General Practitioner or Specialist to refer you to our program. Eligibility and funding requests are arranged prior to admission.

When does this treatment start, and how long does it take?

Both Inpatients and Day program structure are available, program length can be varied based on your progress.

How much dose it cost?

Private health fund, DVA, WorkCover and TAC referrals are accepted. If you have an excess or co-payment with your health insurance, you will be required to pay this at the time of admission. Self-funded patients will be required to pay at the time of admission. Please contact our day rehabilitation staff on 03 9385 1105 for further assistance.
